The cheetah is one of the fastest of all land animals and can reach speeds of up to 64 mph (103 km/h or 29 m/s) in short bursts up to 500 yards (457 meters). The source of this information is Sharp, C. (1997). "Timed running speed of a cheetah". Journal of Zoology 241: 493-494.

The discrepancy may be due to differences in timing. Sharp's work has helped to set a definitive speed but not all researchers may be aware of it.

Well different cheetahs prob. run various different speeds, and different ppl have different ways of calculating their speeds. Cheetahs can reach top speeds of around 60mph some can might be able to reach speeds of 70mph every now and then, but only for short distances.
