In today's game, Italy proved to be a tough nut to crack. However, for me it was nothing special - the Azzuri defended as good as Arsenal did against Barcelona in the Champions League final. Arsenal went ahead a goal & then defended the same way till the 75th minute. But Barcelona never gave up, they were very relentless and flawless in their attack. Eventually their world class showed & they managed to score two goals in the last 15 min & win the CL.
In today's game, I thought that if Germany were anywhere near as good as Barcelona were, they would have put the Azzuri in deep trouble. But they couldn't, so I guess they were just a good side, but nowhere near world class.

Germany got beaten by Italy....
germany is a young team and has less experience.....
they'll definitely be better during the Euro2008

Well, Italy's world class showed too, since they also were relentless and flawless in their attack, just like Barcelona! They didn't give up and managed to score two goals in the last 2 minutes. ;-) Plus, Arsenal were playing with 10 men, weren't they? So, I guess it was easier for Barcelona to score against them.
But your question is about Germany, isn't it? Well, you can't compare a club with some of the best players from Brazil, Holland, Argentina, Spain and other countries with a national team. Unlike FC Barcelona, a national team can only use what home can offer. Based on that, I think Germany wasn't just average. They tied with Argentina (who have more world class players on their team) even before winning on penalty shootouts. They can't be that bad.

What point are you trying to make in your essay here? Italy won .. period. Doesn't matter "this" or "that" they won and that's that. Italy played very good and so did Germany but something's gotta give. I think the second goal ( if you look at it very closely ) Germany was spent and just wasted and went through the motions .. you would too after almost 3 hours of running and with less than a minute to go.

yup you got it right on target i think the Germans came this far till the semis was because credit goes to their aggressive coach Klinsmann and of course they were playin at home
otherwise i wont say they are average they are good but nowhere near world class

They are an average side for sure. they suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx big time. argentina deserved to be in the semis bkoz they were a much better side than germany and they played the most beautiful football in the w.cup.

You cant compare italy's defense with arsenal
italians knows the way of defenseive play from when they r in their mothers stomach
and u cant compare the master "MARCELO LIPPI with ARSEN WENGER"

It is part of the game and it was not the German day.They also missed a few sitters.They should have taken advantage of home ground and home crowd.
