You actually have written the question wrong. I/2 should be distributed to the x-4 so it should appear as so:

1/2 (x-4) + 1 = 1/2 (X-2) I guess with the communitive property of multiplication it could be the way that you have initially wrote it.

Then you would have to solve this way:

2/1 * 1/2 ( x-4) + 1 = 2/1 * 1/2 (X-2)

Remember that when you have a fraction you need to multiply by the reciprocal.

Then you will have 1(X-4) + 1 = 1 (x-2)

Because 2/1 x 1/2 = 1.

Then you would distribute the 1 so it would look like this:

x-4+1 = x-2

X -4 + 1 + 2 = X -2 +2

X -1 = X

X -X -1 +1 = X-X +1

X -X = 0, so x = 0

X = 0

X=0

The value of X is 1
(x-4)1/2+1=(x-2)1/2
((x-4)+2)/2=(x-2)/2
x-4+2=x-2
x-2=x-2
x=x
when u sub the value of 1 for x

(1-4)/2+1=(1-2)1/2
(-3+2)/2=-1/2
-3+2=-1
-1=-1
which becomes equal
so the value of X should be 1

I got x=x too! so that means it's 1?
x/x=0

(x-4)1/2 +1 = (x-2)1/2

2*(x-4)1/2+1=x-2

x-4+2=x-2

x-4+2+2=x

so x = x

x /x = 1 or is it 0?

hmm if you calculate with 1 you get

(1-4)1/2 +1 = (1-2)1/2
2(1-4)1/2 +1=(1-2)
1-4+1=-2
-4=-2
?! that can't be right

x = 0....

Write it like this:

(x-4)/2 +1 = (x-2)/2 if you multiply the x-4 by 1 you'll get x-4 and likewise with x-2.

Now clear the fractions:

the LCD is 2 for everything...make the 1 =2/2.

[2/2] x-4/2 +2/2 = [2/2] x-2/2

You end up with x-2 +1= x-1.

Add the numbers on the left to get x-1= x-1.

When you cancel the numbers, you get x=x.

I don't know how to go any further. All I know is that when I checked it using 0, it worked, and using other numbers didn't.
