Acutally, not just children. Why do people in general think this is safe and ok to do? Do people not realize any Joe-blo with google can find where they live, thier phone number, pictures, what school they go to, and etc. just with a simple screen name or email address? Just try it! Google your screen name and see what pops up. Chances are, if you have ever posted personal information online, it's not that hard to find if you know how to look.

Good point, Randy. I'm just frustrated with all the ignorant people putting themselves at risk on this site. It's unnecessary and dangerous. Please, people, think about what you are saying before you post personal information. You may think no one will come after you, but unfortunately there are crazies out there that will. Be safe, and don't let people know who you are!

darksphyx, there is a difference between living a life of faith and living a life with no boundaries. Picking up hitchhikers and giving out personal information online is not a show of good faith. Doing these things is putting yourself at risk. I am a Christian too, but I do not believe God wants us to sacrifice our own safety to help others. Having faith doesn't mean you have to help every person that comes along. Having faith means helping the people you can and believing God will provide for those you can't. Do not put your self at risk and think God is going to save you from your bad decisions.

"Boundaries", a book written by two reputable Christian authors (Dr. Henry Cloud, and Dr. John Townsend) is a good book on this subject. Please consider reading this book. It has given me a fresh perspective on boundaries, and when it is appropriate to set them.

Because even in this day in age with all the terrible happenings in the world, people refuse to be informed. They also refuse to apply the information they receive.

You're right. It isn't just children making this colossal mistake.

So sad.

Before I answer this question I want to state you should not be stupid and I wish that I could e-mail this to you, since I don't want to give kids an excuse to do stupid things.

See as for me I have nothing to hide. I believe in openness and honesty before all other things. If my beliefs get me killed or something worse so be it.

I pick up hitch hickers because I have been in that situation before. Yes it too can get me killed, but my belief structure is too strong not too pass somebody who needs my help.

See the truth is I know there are bad people out in the world, but if I focused on that I could never leave my house. I mean I could get killed while at a gas station or anything else.

I just live my life like I believe Jesus would.

As far as Children go its not always their fault. what happened to parents? I know everytime my kids are on this thing I am right there in the same room watching their every move. I have every pass word they use. Parents need to take action to help the kids learn how to use the internet properly. Kids don't truly understand the consicquescr to their actions. Adults on the other hand are under educated on how thier stuff goes out on the internet. So it is a lack of the right education.

They (and many adults) assume that there are so few bad people in the world that their chances of being hurt are very small or even non-existent. Furthermore, they may think that when it really counts they will be able outsmart the bad guys or not be duped. Remember, in their minds they are "special" and older people are just genuinely interested in them for all the "right" reasons. There are even biological reasons (due to their immature brains) why young people have a sense of "it could never happen to me" - hence the reason they do a lot of seemingly stupid things.

Chiildren do it because their brains are not fully functional. They see things in a secure controlled environment and believe the world is that way.

People in general however, see what they want to see. And they hope that someone will come into their lives and create a little excitement, even if it's not the kind they had in mind.

Maybe I'm over-psychoanalyzing this, but I think there may be a strong element of exhibitionism in this behavior. Some people either just like to expose themselves to these potential risks, or they are just incredibly naive. Either way, it's their own fault if they become a victim of fraud/identity theft, etc.

Well, about children... many of them don't think about the dangers associated with posting personal information on the 'Net. Usually because their parents don't teach them about internet safety, or they don't care about it enough to keep some information to themselves.

I feel that it is because most people do not realized the danger most of the time. Or that they feel lonely & need attation. Which they do not get in thier daily life. They would think that someone, somewhere out there, there would be someone listening to them.

have problem with my older child trying to tell everyone where we are and phone number. I think maybe it's a curiosity to see if they get a response. Really don't know any other reason why they would find it necessary to do so. Adults, good question.

Parents need to really monitor their kids. At least I can defend myself if someone stalks me (although I don't get personal on line). I see it everyday on this site. Kids giving too much info...
