Write out the problem with numbers....the way it is written.
5(x + 2) = 45
you want to get the variable....which is the letter in the problem....alone......but you need to do the multiplication first...
5x + 10 = 45
- 10 & -10
5x = 35
5x/5 =35/5
x =7
