Wow this is a real touchy question...lots of responses. If Italy are so damn good and have world class players why could thay not score against a no one team as you put with no world class players and need to fake a trip?

Lina B Italy are the luckiest team in the world cup. If it was'nt for them paying off the refs and cheating they would have probably been knocked out in the first round.

This is my first FIFA experience (I'm American), but from watching the Germany/Italy game, I did notice that the Italians seemed to be a little thuggish. The one guy with the pony tail ingored a German player's hand when he was trying to help him up, which I though was rude. I just generally did not like the Italian team (one of my friends is Italian, so I'm glad I'm anonymous on this site). I really wanted Germany to win--I mean really really. But now that they've reached the final, they have a very good chance to win. I hope France comes in and snatches everything away from them.

Wat, they do deserve to be there. Grosso did dive in that attack but Materrazzi did not deserve that red card. Aussies should be proud of what they accomplished and keep their heads high. They played much better than the germans and deserve to be in the final too. Anyway, you should blame the refereeing and not italy. The referees did not do a good job in any of aussies match. 1st goal in japan was a foul (pushin g a goalie to let the ball in is a foul). First brazilian goal was offside (by a meter). Croatia had rugby tackles allowed and hand balls not punished. There should have been 3 penalties for Australia but only one was given. Also 3 yellow cards to one guy!?! What the hell was that. Although Kewells goal was offside, i think they deserved it. Australia was not even expected to win but they managed to do that against the japs convincingly thanks to an extraordinary effort by Cahill and Aloisi. All in all what the Australians did was outstanding but the italians just defended better. I would also like to mention that they beat a team that beat Argentina. They were also not a bit defensive in the germany game. They had the possession and attacked way more than the germans. Also 3 goals does not mean that they are defensive. They were only defensive in the Aussie game because the Aussies are an amazing team (best they played and probably will play).

Ah, there's a football genius amongst us. What joy. Now, let's see, remind me again how many times has Australia won the world cup before? Oh yes, never. How many international competitions between the continents have they won? Oh yes, none. How many world class players do they have...none. The list goes on, but no doubt someone so clearly aware of the sport as you gets the idea, I am sure.

There's no point in repeating all the results/statistics others have posted here since they speak for themselves. But, I would like to add one thing: you assume that football is all to do with the players on the pitch. You are wrong. It is centred on and FOR the fans, the real fans. Australia has its fans for sure, but, they are (as a group) very few, since soccer is a relatively 'new' game in Australia. Plus, if you are a real fan of the sport (and I would say from your narrow-minded comments, you are not), then you would know it is the spirit that lives in the hearts of REAL fans that help teams achieve their victories.

I hope you are NOT indicative of the opinion of those in Australia who are interested in this sport, because, if you and your bitter and pointless complaining are anything to go by, fans in Australia will never know what it is to see your national team beating the cup favourites on their home territory and making it to the final of the World Cup.

Final point: I am an Irishman, and my national team never qualifies for the World Cup (we are only 4 million people, so, this is not a surprise), but I am married to an Italian. The country of Italy has suffered greatly these past 6 years or so (and if you do not know what I am talking about, shame on you!), and I recall saying to my wife before the competition began. 'I wish for Italy or Argentina to win, because, after all their sufferings, their countries deserve something good to happen'.

Last night, the streets all around our house (we live near the Swiss/Italian border) were full of wonderful people, embracing, kissing, shouting with joy until 2am. The first really good thing to happen to this country for years and years. I ask only this of you my friend, please do not let your inability to deal with your own losses take away from this joy.

I wish you well.

take it easy, is the World cup and besides I don't think you yourself have ever played soccer to know that is a game of physical endurance and intelligence. Only those who can last will win, just look at how fast Germany became disorganized after the Goal. Germany is a great team but all it took was a mistake and then loss of control. All the teams in the world cup deserve to be there I will say 32 countries out of 180 countries only selected playes from over (100) profesional leagues that is dam good ill say.

Italy is the most defensive and most boring team in the world. They were lucky to reach this far. The reason they are so damn cocky is because of their insecurity.the Germans wasn't a great team either, they just had home country luck. Italy will lose to either France of portugal either way.

They shoudl they have been one of the best teams in the competition. I am friends with loads of Aussies who were so sure they could win the World Cup, but in reality they had a team who's players couldn't get into most premiership teams. I was certainly supporting Italy in that game and I am English!!

Dont worry it will not last for long. Their 'winning streak' as some may call it , is going to come to an abrupt end in the grand final. I myself do not believe they should even be in the final , after the match versus Australia.

I do not like generalising however Italians are quite egocentric and 'proud' people and like to boast about their achievements and tend not to believe in modesty. lol!

I suppose all we can do is just hope that either Portugal or France beats them in the final ( which i am sure of ) hehehehe;)

The Australians were great, great team, great fans (I met some in Kaiserslautern) and they did add a very nice touch to the World Cup. Keep up the good work, Socceroos!!! (You should have kicked Italy's @ss...we would rather have played against you yesterday!!!)

most of the world cup is about luck. That goes without saying . They're a good team but I doubt they're the best. They're lucky they didn't have to play Brazil or Argentina
