Is it safe for ladies to travel alone at Vietnam? I am thinking going to Hanoi, Sapa, maybe a few places at North side (haven't decide). It'll be my first time travelling alone so I'm quite nervous... :P

absolutly, i go all the time, alone, and i am amazed to see how many young single girls travel all south east asia on their own. dont act a fool, travel light, dont be afraid to meet people[vietnamese] but be a little causious when approached by street hustlers, they're just trying to make a living, but they can be persistant to the point of being annoying, and there are a few little scams that go on especially in counting out change.. if you dont want what they're selling , dont buy, and dont be polite about it, just say "NO"[ no smiles no eye contact]... go on a few guided group tourse till you feel comfortable getting a motor bike driver and going off on your own.. be adventurous but not foolish, use your instints and let your conciense be your guide.

You will be just fine! Check with the embassy and see if there are any hot zones. I currently live in South Korea and tons of people here vacation in Vietnam. It's a very beautiful place. Travel smart, make sure the embassy knows that you are there and that they have copies of your passport and itinerary. Also leave this information plus your contact information wtih a family member while you are traveling. Have fun!

Unless you have family or friends that live there, probably not.
That is true with just about any place nowadays.

I have friends (1 male, 1 female) that have recently travelled to Vietnam (each alone), however both have family there.

I agree with tieia.

Just be smart. Don't flash your cash around, stay in populated areas, and be back at your hotel early rather than late, and you should be fine.

If you speak Vietnamese, that is a total bonus, and the people there are polite and helpful, even if you don't speak their language.

Have a great trip!
