I think it's because average Americans are relatively new to soccer and the World Cup. But they are very familiar with American football. They like physical games where you attack a lot and score a lot of points. So, many of them don't like how the Italian team plays and were cheering for teams that impressed them more in terms of attack and score.
As for the other nationalities on Yahoo Answers, they may like attack better too, or be biased, relying on stereotypes, etc... They also like fair play, so if Italians dive they are cheaters, but when the players on their favorite team do so, of course it's ok.
Also, Germany had home field advantage. And we all watched Korea 2002...

Inzaghi is just old now. Everyone in the start up line is better than him. True, they r true heroes and certainly deserve to win the World Cup.
