For the first year, your periods are sporadic. I was spotting for 30 days at a time.

I'm a third year pharmacy student, and I can tell you for sure that while on Depo for the first year many people experience "breakthrough" bleeding or spotting at various times while their bodies adjust to the changing levels of hormones and altered state of menstrual cycle. After the first year greater than 90 percent of those taking Depo should become amenorrheic (no period at all). As for the claims of infertility, it is true that after discontinuing Depo there is a relatively significant delay in the return of fertility; generally around 10 months to a year. After that period of time your body should have returned to normal and all should be well in the reproductive system. Do remember that hormonal contraceptive methods have both positive and negative side effects. That being said, you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist about whether or not you are a good fit for taking Depo as opposed to another method of contraception (ie. you're young, plan to take BC for an extended time, no previous history of deep venous thrombosis, etc.) Any good pharmacist should be able get some minor details from you and educate you on which contraceptive means is most likely best for you. Best of all, talking to your local pharmacist is FREE. Good luck.

most women do not get their period, it stops the body from releasing eggs...but it may take a while before you stop having your period completely. You'll probably have periods or spotting for a while. But long term depo, can cause things like osteoporosis. See your dr with any questions

I would NOT take that!! I was on it for 4 years with NO period and have been off of them for a year now and still haven't had a period and was given Provera to start my period and still nothing so it messes up your body and hormones so I recommend stopping NOW!! BC does more harm than good I think.

YOU SHOULD STILL BE HAVING IT. ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT, DO YOU NOT KNOW THERE ARE MAJOR CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS PENDING WITH DEPO SHOTS?!!
THIS IS VERY SERIOUS. MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE TO FIND SOME OTHER TO USE. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT IT CAN CAUSE HEART PROBLEMS, STROKES AND OTHER SERIOUS PROBLEMS INCLUDING DEATH.
