I just watched the first Superman the other day and at 18 Superman found the green crystal and went away from home and just threw it out into a artic area and it rose from the ground. But I don't know if that is what you were looking for. I know he stayed there for 12 years. Kinda cool to watch the original again.

The crystals are actually part of Kryptonian technology. They basically "recreate" Krypton by using whatever elements are around them. That is why the rocks grew out of the ocean the same way they grew out of the ice in the first movie.

But another question you could ask is: How was Superman strong enough to lift the Kryptonite island and toss it out into space?

Why didn't he go after Lex Luthor at the end of the movie? He couldn't fly around in the general area and find him? Dish out a little payback?

Why was the "S" on his chest so frickin' small?
