I had a full hysterectomy 10 years ago. I was in soooooooooo much pain before the surgery that I felt awesome afterwards!! Come to find out, my ovary was attached to my colon. No wonder I was in so much pain all the time--during and inbetween periods!

I remember that since I was no longer in severe pain, I was walking upright immediately. I had a little discomfort and was healed pretty well in about a week, off of the pain meds about then as well. It does take about 4-6 weeks to fully recover, tho. During that time, you don't do ANYTHING strenuous--such as mowing the lawn, etc, or else you will pull out the stittches and cause more problems.

Your doctor will advise you of what you can and can't do before and after the surgery.

Yes it was painful. I had intensd pain right after I woke up. They put a thing in my hand and told me that it was pain control. They told me to push the button as often as I like and it will help with the pain. Basically, the second push knocked me out. The doctor put it in my hand right after surgery and told me to push the button as often as I needed, that I wouldn't OD and die. It was great. I used it for 3 days. After that the pain was manageable. I wished that I had done this surgery years ago. The recovery took a few weeks to be totally back to normal but it was GREAT!!!! Why I put off this surgey, I have no idea. It was the best thing that I did for me!

Doing the procedure is not painful, because you won't know or feel what taking place, you are put to sleep, you will wake within the hour after they finish the operation, or depend on how your body reacted to the sedation. You will feel pain for two to three days and the complete healing will take seven weeks. they will prescribe medication for the pain just follow the doctor instruction and everything will be OK . you won't regret doing it. (After finishing with child bearing)

Not anymore painful than a partial hysterectomy. It will take approximately 6 weeks to fully physically recover.
