The National Pro Fastpitch league has seven teams. there was a proffesional mens softball league a number of years back. 1977, foundered bybill byrne and the comisioner was whitey ford. there were franchises in 12 cities, players were paid around $3000 . detroit played baltimore for the championship and won in 4 games. bert smith in his 1st 11 at bats as a pro hit 6 hr. around the same time [1976] there was a womans pro league... i think borth lasted only 1 year.
