Do you know exactly what kind of plant it is? A lot of small juniper bushes are sold as bonsai trees, and they need lots of sunJust trim it how you like it and when it gets too big, trim it how you like it again. No big deal. You can buy light kits anywhere to provide inside light for your plant. Try at nurseries, Wal Mart in the garden section.

It is nearly impossible to give good and accurate advise on pruning without knowing at least if the plant is evergreen needle or deciduous, etc.

Light, most plants that are used for bonsai need at least 6 - 8 hrs of good light a day. Some require that amount of full sun.
Again near impossible to make a recommendation without knowing what the tree is.
