The breast self-exam and mammograms are great reccommendations. However, you must keep in mind that if you find a lump while doing the self-exam, it may not be cancer. Actually, most lumps detected by young women are not cancer. But you must get an appointment at your OB/GYN's office immediately if you do find a lump. When the receptionist answers the phone, say "I found a lump in my breast, I am worried it may be cancer." Saying "cancer" may prevent you from waiting months to be seen by your gynecologist or nurse practicioner.

If you want to to test yourself you should do a breast Self-examination(BSE)
at least once a month just to be sure. Also if you don't know how here are the directions
1.Put your right hand behind your head and use the pads of the three middle fingers of your left hand to examine your right breast (use soapy water if in the shower)
2. Press using light, medium and firm pressure in a circular motion, then follow with an up-and-down pattern and then a wedge pattern
3.Feel for any changes in your breast, above and below your collarbone and in your armpit area
4.Repeat these steps for your left breast
The source below can help by showing a BSE guide and it has the pictures to show the movements and what to do for each step.I hope this helps you out ! :)

Get a mammogram. If the doctor suspects cancer, he will do a biopsy, and that will tell him definitively if cancer is present.
