Only bats. But there are many people who are bloodsuckers and leeches!

I'd love to say that vampires existed beyond the species of Bat, but sadly no. Although Dracula was a real person, his castle still exist, still creeps people out, this is because he was a brutal person. The vampires of the movies are just that, made up, alive only in the relms of the human mind.

Its a question i have in mind since childhood and wishes to be one of them... if they really exist. But the answer is NO. Vampires are bats found in tazmania. A type of bat that eats insects and drinks blood of animals but not a human figured creature such as the one they called Dracula. Dracula, one of the prince of war was called the impaler because he like to punished wrong doers by impaling them in the plaza of transylvannia until that person die due to loss of blood. By that way he has established full control of peace and order of his kingdom. Of course he had done this when he became the King, his fathers name is Dracul, meaning Dragon. Dracula is the son of the dragon. When Dracula died the church didn't baptized his body so he was buried without the blessing of the church. When the body of Dracula is about to be baptized, they were amazed to find out that there is no remains or any part of the body of dracula. Since then it was humored that dracula walks every night and do terrible things... i also heared that there are society that is trying to adapt the way of living of the so called vampires. they even wear contact lens, pretending that the sun will hurt them, drinks blood, and etc.

Firstly, there are stories of people who take in blood taken from other people. This is not a life saving thing - as stylised in many movies, but a cultural thing - you could almost say copycat or vampire fetish.
There has been a lot of rubbish put on here about the real Dracula - who was only a regional count (not a king) but ruled over part of Transylvania near the Arges valley. I have been to his castle which is in ruins (and up 1700 steps!). The story of Dracula as told by Bram Stoker is believed to be an amalgamation of two people - Vlad Tepes (Dracula) and Countess Bathory. Vlad tepes birthplace in a place called Sigisoara is now a hotel and restaurant - I have eaten there. It is also based on folklore and myth - stories to keep people in check and afraid. Vlad tepes was an evil man, he did impale his enemies when he threw them off cliffs and on to spikes. He also invited many of his rivals for a peace talk and when they arrived he killed them and fed them to crabs - later he invited their family to dinner and fed to them the crabs. not a nice guy. When he finally died he was beheaded and his head buried on a sacred island in a lake not far from Bucharest and the body in Transylvania.

ACTUALLY...yes.

The origin of vampirism is believed to lie in the disease called Porphyria. It's a rare heme deficiency in humans that results in the need to consume blood from other animals. Unless another source of heme is provided, the person's blood and skin will suffer - boils will form, turn into scars and eventually the skin tissue will waste away entirely, deforming the victim's face. Those who suffer from porphyria also experience times of psychosis, and are very sensitive to sunlight (UV rays). It is believed that Mad King George suffered from porphyria, as well as Bloody Mary of England.

Since the richest source of heme is human blood, some sufferers have been known to take human victims, thus the origins of what we call vampires.

When I was a child, my cousins convinced me there were vampires. I asked my mother who chose to ignore the question. One Saturday afternoon she left to go shopping and I remained home. I started thinking about vampires lurking at dusk waiting to prowl the darkness. Wanting to protect my parents and myself, I immediately set about vampire proofing our house. I took my mother's lipstick and drew crosses on all the windows and mirrors. I hung onions mixed with garlic on coat hangers over the windows and doors. I collected all the matches in the house to set the vampire ablaze and since I had no wooden stake, I brought out the trusty ball bat. In my mind, I was more than ready to take on the vampires of Cumberland County. My mother returned and appeared horrified with the careful steps I had undertaken to make us safe. To sum it up, when she was done with me, I knew beyond a doubt that if vampires were real they couldn't possibly inflict the damage that mother had. It was a lesson learned. There are no vampires.

There are people who call themselves vampires, but they are still people. Some really believe they are vampires, and more then one has killed and is in jail now.
There are vampire bats.
There are emotional vampires, who are also people.

But the vampires you are talking about are just as real as Santa Claus.

No, there aren't.

And for the girl who wrote "yes, there are people that truly believe they are vampires, they are called goths" that is the most idiotic thing I have ever read. Those type of people are laughed at in *our* social group... and tend to be the very people that listen to Cradle of Filth... which is also laughed at.

There are people who believe they are vampires, but there are also people who believe they are Napoleon.

There *are* people who drink blood... but not to live forever. These people are called sanguinarians.

There are no vampires in the "TV" sense. Some people in some cultures drink blood, but if you are a human, you cannot transform yourself into a vampire.

I wanted to be a magical fairy before, but all my wishing never worked.

There are plenty of people that like to call themselves vampires and will even drink others' blood, but they're not any different from anyone else. It's just a lifestyle.

There are many types of vampires. The ones that most of us meet every day are "psychic vampires". They feed off of the minds of the unsuspecting.
