I had that pain a couple of times actually. It wasn't really a contraction, my doctor told me.... but my body and muscles shifting. It really scared me, but it was nothing to worry about.

Contractions are lower around your abdomen. Your belly will get really tight and it will almost be hard to take a breath.

Contractions feel more like Menstrual Cramps on sterroids. Seriously. In conjunction with a contraction, your belly will firm up like a ripe melon. So hard you can't 'squish' it with your hand. It stays this way for several seconds - several minutes. Then relaxes again. Women who experience 'back labor' feel contractions that are like they are constipated, or like bowel pain.

I don't remember a stabbing sensation in my chest/belly. Except for the killer heart-burn I had in the 3rd trimester. Now some women feel a stabbing/pinching like sensation down in the pelvic floor...and that is the body working on beginning to dialate.

If your strange pain comes back, and is interfering with life, I would talk to the doc. You are probably having appointments every week now...bring it up at the next appointment.
And congrats on the new baby on the way.

That doesn't sound like any contraction I've ever experienced. It actually sounds like intracaustal pain, like maybe you separated a rib?

During a contraction, your belly gets really hard and tight (you can see that part happening), and it feels like a giant squeeze. It kind of wraps around, from the front to the back or vice versa, and it builds in intensity and then fades away. It's a very distinctive sensation.

It doesn't sound like you are going into labor yet. Also, if it doesn't continue every 5 minutes or so, it isn't the real thing. Tell your doctor about it, but don't worry. you'll know when labor starts. My pains were much lower than that, but everyone is different. Don't panic. Good luck. you'll see your little angel's face soon enough!

usually when you are having a contraction, your stomach will get really hard, like a rock.
