Newcastle, Man City, Bolton... all Premiership clubs!! Come on - what about Sheff Weds, Stoke, Wolves, Bristol City, Forest... big clubs in big cities / towns who can't even get into a decent division!

There are many candidates: NUFC, and their immediate neighbours, Sunderland; Ipswich, Norwich, Aston Villa, WBA and Birmingham City; Tottenham, Charlton, Millwall, Fulham, West Ham: Then there are the nearly boys of Everton, Manchester City and Bolton. Coventry City who enjoyed top flight football from 1966 until their relegation in 2001 or 02, were never what you might call a force, and along with Derby County, QPR and Stoke City were just filler for the division. Leicester City is another candidate, along with Wolves and for many years including the last three or four, Leeds United whose spectacular implosion and demise can be compared with a super nova. All of these would be suitable candidates for the plum accolade of Englands greatest team of nearly boys, too many teams not enough talent.

Newcastle, Spurs, Man City and it's about time a city the size of Bristol had a Premiership club.

Being a Wednesday fan and considering we're one of three big clubs from the Premier League to sink down to Division 2 (now League 1), I'd certainly say we get a high score on the underachievers chart.
Man City managed to claw their way out of that league, as did Wednesday. Just have to see if Forest can get themselves together and win promotion.

Newcastle United.
Unquestionnably the perennial underachievers. Their last trophy was the Fairs Cup (the pre-cursor to the UEFA Cup) in 1969.
Their failure is difficult to stomach for their devoted fans, who number in excess of 50,000 every week and the millions of pounds spent on their behalf by a catalogue of managers.
They have made it to FA Cup Finals and lost by wide margins and have led the Premiership at various stages but they've failed season after season to capitalise.
However, on another level regional clubs with large potential fan bases like Plymouth, Carlisle, Hull City have also vastly underachieved.

Newcastle United...despite being one of the best supported clubs in the country with an average home attendance of over 50,000 for their games in the Premiership they haven't won a domestic trophy for over 50 years.

Manchester City.To be in the same city as United and to be compared to them all these years. It must be tough. They really haven't been good since the 70's.Or maybe Newcastle United.Expectations have always run high there and they just haven't been very good lately, have they Graham?

Man City living in the shadows of the super red devils. Mind you, they used to have the biggest floodlights in the league. Now they are gonna have the biggest neon sign erected. Magic. Just like B of the Bang !! Ha ha .dont think so.
