when you connect a laptop to a docking station, in essence, you are making a single connection that can connect your laptop to:
a full size keyboard
a full size monitor
a mouse
power supply
any peripherals (printer, LAN, modem,etc.)

allows you to have larger screen and direct hook ups to other peripherals. The notebook slides into a special hook up and it also recharges the battery

its something you plug your laptop into (actually plop down onto) that's all ready plugged into your phone line/cable/satellite-dish for internet.and also plugged into scanners, copiers, printers, and other accessories so you can use your laptop as a desk top computer
