I think the "Preppy/Popular" students in most high school have one advantage....they are not afraid to stand out. I know most get a bad rap for being, fake, snobby, rich kids. But let's face it. They are the ones that are trendsetters, risk-takers, and set the pace of which fashions are being worn at their school. They command a presence, speak out about issues, run the student government, and excel in sports. Therefore, these are the good qualities that make good business people that may go on to excel as adults.

The word preppy first came from PREP school, which is a prepatory school to get into the ivy league schools- so basically those high academic/educational high schools (usually boarding schools which r heck of a fortune so ppl who go there are usually rich) have dress codes and the dress codes required them to wear "preppy" clothes. as in polos and collared shirts and nice clothes. Stores like abercrombie & fitch, american eagle, hollister are good sources of cheaper preppy clothes (expensive preppy clothes are like.. j.crew and lacoste) that wont violate the school dress code (btw prep schools are usually really strict about dress) but then normal girls (and guys) from non-prep schools decided that the "prep"py style was cool so they wear it now.
And since the preppy style is kind of expensive, the rich girls usually get to wear them. Not all, but most. Sometimes rich kids are snobby so then preppy became labeled as snobby and now many ppl think that preppy people are all like .. "group of people seem to act like they're all that and that they have e/t in the world" and it's kind of true because the word preppy slowly became a word for that. preppy girls are mostly popular cuz they are in a clique. or popular girls become preppy because they are pressured to dress good so people will think she is cool and everything.
but some people who happen to wear preppy clothes for their school dress code arent neccesarily snobs. rich, yes. but some people are nice.

Just b/c those individuals wear those brands doesn't mean that they are "preps", thats just labeling based on what they wear. I know plenty of kids who are popluar and don't wear those brands. It's not 80's or 70's etc. to be stuck on labeling a cheerleader as a snob-though most are b/c of the symoliztion of cheerleaders that reflects them a popluar, hott etc.-which isn't true a lot of times, or jocks as being dumb-b/c I know of a lot who aren't. So, what the hell do I think of "preps", I don't. I was friends with all types of individuals including "preps", and yeah some of there friends acted like they were that good-but I just saw them like a peice of dirt that they were, who gives a flying fcuk- in the future it's those types, In the future the "i'm better than you" assshole will be the ones that will get no wear in life. Plus, it's not what you wore, or who Mary hooked up with, it' the education that you learned, how you used it, and the individual you matured into that will matter. Believe me, it's doesn't matter in the real world if you were homecoming queen, if you can't follow orders-especially with out b!thing or working hard-you'll get no one's respect or no where in life.

Well im a prep, but not full out because im still black. But brands don't mean a thing. Almost everybody wears those brands. Alot of preps are really nice. And most of the time the most popular one is someone everybody likes.

I think that some preps (populars and jocks) are o.k., but some of them out there can be pretty snoby to people that they think are in a (lower) standard or class to them. I don't mean to insult you if you are popular. I know some girls at my school that are the nicest people I know that are preppy and popular. I hope you find this anwer acceptable.

Well...I think that people who called a certain group "Preps/Preppy" are just haters!~ I love to wear name brands and rainbow flip flops, and carry only the best handbags! And YES, i do get sterotype often about being a rich, stuckup, snobby, spoiled, brat. AKA: Prep! Anywayz....When people get to know me they say that they are Sorry for sterotyping me, because they said when they took time to get to know me, I am one of the sweetest and kindest person they ever have meant!

first of all.... true preps do not wear Abercrombie or hollister crap. that's is for 5th graders. I attend a college prep/boarding school and trust me, I am your ultimate prep. we wear brands such as Lacoste, vineyard vines, Patagonia,Burberry, etc. yes we are rich and yes we do love ourselves. I absolutely adore other preps because they have something called style. sorry hun, but if your still wearing hollister, you need to hire a wardrobe assistant.

I detest people who think they are better than anyone else or are more important than anyone else or should get more than anyone else. I made a the biggest effort to avoid these girls at school only to find they actually WANTED to talk to me when i saw them out (after we finished high school). I made it very clear that they never wanted to talk to me in school & i was granting them the same curtesy in adulthood. Yuh, that felt REALLLLLY good ;)

I think being popular should no be judged on what you wear. Those girls just think they are the greatest.. that doesnt mean they are. I dont think they are really popular. I think a popular person is someone who gets along with everyone no matter wat clique they are in. just cause they dont rule the school doesnt make them unpopular.

I used to think they were funny......They had to have all those "things" to make themselves look and feel important......I guarantee you, if you are sweet and kind and thoughtful, you will have more friends along the way if you wear a potato sack than superficial people will....Take care
