Yes it's important, all years are. It's better to start early and keep up everything instead of being 'perfect' for just your last year. But keep in mind that GPA isn't everything. Extracurriculars are very important. It's important to be well rounded. So if your freshman year isn't as good as it could be, it's good to show improvement. Colleges take that into consideration.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. I mean you want to do the best you possibly can. You never want to limit yourself based off of a lack of trying. Your high school GPA is important if you want to get into a place like Harvard or Yale, or like that, but for regular colleges, even a decent GPA is acceptable. If your school runs off of a 4 point grading scale then a 4.0 average is obviously all A;s, 3.0 B, 2.0 C, 1.0 D. A good place to be is 2.5 or better for a lot of places.
More than grades, colleges tend to look at your scores on standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. Combining this with your high school GPA will tell them a lot about your educational ability. Remember too that you should have an admissions interview for most colleges that are selective at all. This is a great time to sell youself as a hard worker and dedicated student.
Also, colleges will look at your progression through high school. It doens't matter at all if you get a 4.0 your freshman year if you took all really easy classes, or even if you get a 4.0 your frosh year and then get 2.0 the rest of the time. The important thing is your consistency. If, for example, you were to get a 3.0 your freshman year and then a 3.2, 3.4, 3.6 for the other 3 years, that's a very strong student. It shows you worked hard to do the best you could and you were able to bring up your grades.
So overall, taking one year of high school in isolation will not make or break your chances of getting into the college you want. What is importnat is the big picture.... whether you perform well in your high school classes consistently and how you do on your college admission tests( SAT, ACT). Good luck! This is an exciting time in your life! Enjoy it.

College admissions counselors look at the overall GPA first. That's what stands out. If you have anything higher than a 3.5 on a 4 point scale you'll be fine most everywhere.
If you are a borderline admit kid, the counselors will probably look at your transcript and gauge how you did your junior and senior years.
You can't get into college your freshman year of high school but you can surely screw things up if you get awful grades.

In terms of GPA, it usually isn't important for college admissions. However, that doesn't mean that freshman year is not important at all.
You still must do well for yourself and your future classes. How well you do during that year can set the foundation for your work habits in the next 3 years as well as determine which classes you'll be able to enroll. After all, if you slack off the first year, the years after might be of you stuck in mediocre classes that may not look well for admissions.
Usually your GPA, for your transcripts will have two numbers. One for all four years. One for your last three. While it varies for each college, it usually is the last three.

Not really. But you need to improve during the other three years to get a strong GPA.

All your years in high school reflect on a collage admission. Most go by a grade point average.

Yes it is important. Senior is least because you will be sending grades from in December/January with your applications.

All years are checked but your second half of your Junior year and your entire Senior year is checked heavier. 3.5-4.0 will more than likely get you into higher end colleges.
