The answer is that it would be a citizen of both the US and Russia. Since the child was born here, that child could run for President provded the child meets all the residency requirements of 14 years and 35 years of age as prvided in Art II of the Constitution

Agree with answers pointing out that the candidate must be born in the United States and be 35 or more years older. I'm not sure what the residency requirements might be. Many members of this forum might be familiar with a situation involving either the current or previous King of Thailand. He was born in the United States during his father's getting his education here. I imagine he had to renounce his American citizenship, but one of the reasons I'm writing this is to point out something about customs. He was interviewed on American national television and the Thai government was looking forward to televising the interview (this was before satellite television) in the Republic of Thailand. The interviewer did a thing many people do to get more comfortable: he put his leg on his knee. This resulted in at least two major insults to the King. The interviewer had pointed his toe at the King and had also raised his foot above the level of the King's foot. A rather annoyed Thai embassy informed the US State Department about these insults that very day. The King had decided not to say anything during the interview to avoid disrupting it and also to avoid embarrassing the interviewer on the air. While this has little to do with the question, I thought forum members might find the story interesting.

I'm tempted to be sarcastic..that would be some comment about "Look who's President now!"...A child born in the United States is a citizen of the United States...at least that's what I've heard. Check it out...lots of resources on the net re: citizenship.

You do have to live in the United States prior to running for the Presidency. But if you are born in the United States, and are 35 years old, you could run.
You would probably be a citizen of both nations.

the child presently has the right to become a citizen. anyone born in the USA can be citizen. i think they must choose at age 18 and before age 19.
they are thinking about changing this law to stop mexicans from using it but also thinking about letting naturalized citizens like Arnold Schwartzeneger become president. so it is sort of political schizophrenia
the law says you must be 35 years minimum and a natural citizen ( born here)
so in your scenerio, the child could grow up to be president. but Arnold cannot

That child is a US citizen upon its birth. It could wind up being President. I'm guessing a dual citizenship would be the most likely...a citizen of both the US and Russia.

The qualifications to be president of the US are - you must be over 35 years old and a citizen of the US born in the country. Since everyone born in the US is considered a citizen, in your example, yes, the child would be eligible. (Unless he/she renounces citizenship).
