me and my mom were driving on the freeway in l.a. and we saw a small gray plane that was very close to the ground. it didn't look like a regular passenger plane, but i don't what that was. it turned around and flew away right before it was about to hit a building. what was it? a ufo? (kidding)

ccould have been a crop duster. They fly low to fields of crops so they can spray the fields.

people fly small experimental kits that they build themselves (like the plane that the singer John Denver died in) there are a lot of em in SoCal. might be what you saw.

I think it might be for catching speeders. In some places they use specil one man planes for this.
