Depends what the coach is going for, he could go for experience or leadership with either Chris Chelios, Lidstrom, or Shanahan. But they might want to go for someone younger like Zetterberg or Datsyuk. The younger ones will then be captains for a long time like Yzerman was. But no one is going to compare to Yzerman.

The most likely person who is going to wear the C in Detroit is Niklas Lidstrom, However they may want to try something else this year.

Leave the C vacant as a show of respect for Yzerman and have 3 assistant captains. This is completely legal in the hockey rules, as only a captain or assistant can talk to the referees during a dispute.

(Just a thought)

I think Kris Draper and maybe even Tomas Holmstrom...I know everyone and their brother is saying Nicklas Lidstrom but I don't think he'll make a good Captain...Yeah he's a great player and everyone knows that...but he's to softspoken and a leader can't be that...he brings something to the wings something that they need to win but I don't see him in the leadership role

It should go to Chelios till he retires. That will give enough time for Zetterberg to mature into that role. Just as they did for Yzerman. Those skates are to big to fill now for a young guy.

C stands for Chelios. He's been one of the veteran players who has been with the team for a while and is no stranger to leadership. I think he is the right man to anchor this team and lead not only in the locker room but on the ice as well.

Lidstrom

I would say Lindstrom, but they might make it a young player on the team. Yzerman was what, 20 when he became captain? They may want to continue the tradition of having the same captain for many many years.

Lidstrom seems to be the favorite but if Shanny returns maybe him...Zetterberg is another choice to consider. But Lidstrom has to be the favorite.

Lidstrom
I think he has the experience and leadership to be captain but no one will be quite like Stevie!
