A tesseract is another name for the hypercube.
It's difficult to picture a hypercube. The only hypercube I can think of that appears in art is in Salvador Dali's "Crucifixion (Corpus Hypercubus)" where he makes an eloquent and moving statement about Christ's impact in space and time by depicting Christ crucified on an unfolded hypercube: http://www.virtualdali.com/54Crucifixion.html

If you meant tesseract....
It refers to the fourth demention. A point is to a line as a line is to a square as a square is to a cube as a cube is to a tesseract.... since we only see (and thus think) on the x-y-z plane, it is a concept which is difficult to wrap our minds around.
It was popularized by the novel A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Very good book btw.
