Young people join gangs for a lot of different reason. Some join out of fear and others join for protection. Some even join because of peer pressure.I think a lot of young people join a gang because they need a sense of belonging. I am trying to say that everybody at one point or another wants to be part of a group. People have to feel like they are a part of something. A few may feel that the gang is the only place they fit in well. A sense of unity can exist among the gang members. Although the Mafia is more structured, I still think loyalty can be seen in gang members.

In the hopes of being appreciated or a part of something. When in fact they are even more devalued and humiliated in gangs. This ads to more rage and self esteem issues.

A sad, sad vicious cycle.

I so wish parents would give their children the attention and praise that they deserve. Neglected children crave that attention and will seek it out anywhere they can find it. It would be so much better to find that attention in a loving home.
