Actually, the period itself doesn't hurt, but the cramps do. If you're having bad period cramps, take some Tylenol, put a hot water bottle on your stomach, drink lotsa water and try to sleep through it.

If you are referring to cramps - yes that is pretty common, but some women are lucky enough not to get cramps. If you do get them, taking Ibuprofen (Motrin, etc.) takes the pain away. Some women take Tylenol, but I don't find it to work well because it is not an anti-inflammatory. A hot water bottle also helps or you can buy these special self-heating disposable pads to put on your aching belly.

Do you mean the first time ever? or each month?

When I first got mine I didn't feel a thing and this stayed the same for the first 6 months.

But ever since then I have had extreme and debilitating period pain requiring medication and surgery.

Everyone is different though. For me pain is normal, for others it isn't. Once you establish a regular cycle you will know what is normal for you.

Every person differs with cramps. I get mine about a day or two before I'm going to start. Go with whatever method of relief listed above works for you and good luck!

The pain you are feeling is the clotting of blood trying to pass thru your walls to your vagina. This pain can be elevated by using a hot water bottle or pad.. Hot chocolate or tea can help ..
