How else do they distinguish what they do to straighten out privates from the next rank up (corporal)?
Most definitions of corporal punishment involved a punisher physically inflicting pain as a punishment on another. Very rarely is that in use. That is saved for restraint procedures of people resisting arrest. Usually, there are physical punishments in terms of doing exercises like pushups. In some people's minds, this too is corporal punishment--but it is a step or two removed. No, they really don't and haven't for a long time.

Yes they do. The last US military serviceman executed was in the 1960's for the rape and attempted murder of a girl in Vietnam.
