So what do people in England DO on the 4th of July? Do you even know it is the day the U.S. declared Independence? Can you watch shows that show crazy Americans jumping around to music and fireworks? Or do you just sob into your pillows? What do you DO?

this is a good question. when i asked americans when the native americans celebrated theirs i got negative abuse lol.
i cant answer for everyone in the UK but for me and everyone i know we never think of it. its like us celebrating when we got free of the romans. lol its history.
im guessing americans think it as the day you got free from the brits...but you wasnt slaves lol. you were brits (among other things) that was seen more as a colony.

I think this may promote the wrong sort of feeling between Brits and Americans.
I do not actively celebrate Independence day.
Not for any reason, its just not a big deal for people in England and we cannot celebrate every day from every country.
I am happy for the Americans they have their Independence etc and I am aware that July the 4th is the day for Independence.
Good for the Americans!
But you don't see Americans celebrated every special day in Britain, its not a nasty thing but its just practical and not special to them.
I mean why not celebrate every day of the year then? It has to be someones birthday each day-so celebrate it?!
We don't because it does not involve us personally so would be wrong.

Why is this question particularly pointed at the British rather than other nationalities? In fact why ask this question at all? It's just a further example of one American letting the majority down - imho a bit like GWB really... Congratulations on youre Independence Day anniversary, and on your ignorance for inviting yet more racism between our two nations through these boards.

What do Americans do on 23rd April? At least most British people are aware that 4th July is American Independance Day.

4th of July...hey, that was yesterday! I spent most of the day on my mobile!! Easymobile.com have excellent deals...go there and sign up for a £3 sim card and you get £30.00 credit on it!! If you put 07962486953 in the recommended by a friend bit...we'll both get an extra £5 credit!
Yesterday i spent all day on ny phone cos for some reason easymobile do 24hours free calls & txts to any network, apparently they do this a few times a month!(well at least they did till i took advantage with free calls...probably bankrupt now!!)

Nothing. It's just a normal day. Independence Day is an American celebration, so why would any other country pay any attention to it? National celebrations only have significance in the country they are being celebrated, like you don't celebrate Guy Fawkes Night or St George's Day.

I know it's the day we ALLOWED you rabble to have your independance. Why on earth would we want to watch you "crazy americans" jumping around? What do you lot do on Her Majesty's Birthday? Sit sobbing into your pillows wishing you had a heritage?

You must be joking! We know what 4th July is but I think we just wake up with a smile and a big sigh of relief. When was the last time we begged you to come back? I'll make it even simpler for you...why would we ask you to come back? I do see your point though..suppose with very little history or achievements you're a bit short of things to celebrate.....

Is St Patricks day, St Georges Day, St Andrews Day, etc, widely celebrated in the USA? It is a celebration for your region, it is up to you to celebrate. Don't expect the rest of the world to cheer for you to keep you happy. I personally do not care, but that's cos im a Limey, or moreso a Sweaty, and generally angry, ginger, an alcoholic and run around in my kilt and sporran.

why would we sob in our pillows? or why would we not know that it's independance day?, what a rediculous question? are you insinuating we are all stupid?
I met a few americans on a recent holiday to mexico and i got asked questions like "hey is england big or small?" and so many people said " hey i know someone from england, do you know...." who probably lived at least 100 miles from me! of course i didn't know them. talk about ignorance. Of course we do nothing it's your independance day not ours!
