Pipi, why do you think it's taking so long? In your opinion, would it take place in the present, or would they have to build sets from the sixties?

According to Greg's Preview Page...

Release Date: TBA 2006 (wide)

Release Date Note: (2/24/04) Miramax has long had this movie on their schedule as a summer, 2005 release, but Kevin Smith has now narrowed that down to August, 2005. (12/28/04) With Kevin Smith focusing on the sequel to Clerks, it's uncertain if he'll actually direct the film. It's looking like it'll be out in 2006 at the earliest.
Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal (Britt Reid); other cast not announced yet.

But www.imcb.com has nothing with Smith or Gylenhaal connected to The Green Hornet.

www.comics2film.com has some information, but it is kind of old. The latest info I found was from August 2005 and it states that Disney has registered the domain www.greenhornetthemovie.com.

After many fits and starts including the much-talked up casting of George Clooney and Jet Li in the lead roles, the Green Hornet movie may be back on track.

Disney Enterprises just registered the Web site domain name: "GreenHornettheMovie.com" which gives some indication the studio intends to go through with the movie after all.

The Green Hornet began as a pulp novel adventure hero in the 1930s and then went on to gain much larger fame as a radio show and as a movie serial hero.

Ok a bit of info from an inside source:

Kevin Smith will be writing this (God help us all)
The status of the move is that it is in script stage which means the script is not finished yet.
Kevin Smith is no longer directing the Green Hornet. He is not able to do the movie the way he wants. The movie company wanted him to write it a certain way so he no longer wants to direct he is just going to write the story.
Kevin Smith is torn between Jet Li and Jake Gyllenhaal for the lead.
Jason Mewes is attached to the movie but no one has revealed what role yet.

We can only hope. I have checked IMDB and they have a movie listed. It is from 1966 and I believe it starred Bruce Lee reprising his role as Kato. He was Kato on the TV series about the same time.
