I heard that yesterday on t.v. ...that is just crazy that it costs more to make a penny then it is worth. I think they will try to figure out a way to make pennies for less. I do not think that they will ever figure out a way to get rid of the penny, especially with tax. What are they going to do round?

Australia ditched both the 1c and 2c pieces in 1990-91.
We also dropped the $1 and $2 notes in favour of $1 and $2 coins. Final totals at the cash register are rounded up/down to the nearest 5c.
(Current currency is 5c 10c 20c 50c $1 and $2 coins plus $5 $10 $20 and $100 notes)
To give you an idea of purcahsing power, a Music CD is about AUD20.00 - AUD25.00 for current top forty, a DVD around AUD35.00 for new releases. A loaf of bread is around AUD2.80 for "brand name" and around AUD1.00 for generic loaves. (A McDonalds Cheeseburger varies in price from store to store but often arount AUD1.75)
1c and 2c pieces had ben useless for about 5-10 years at that point vending machines didn't take them, they existed purely as pocket shrapnel. Are US pennies worth minting? Can you use them for anything useful, can you purchase a loaf of bread or something else menaingful with a realistic handfull?

i dont think that it is worth is at all i mean what r u going to do with some pennies more i mean i know that it will add up over time but dang that will take time i dont get it when people buy this cause it is 2 pennies different i mean wow NOT i mean gosh dont get it
