The other night I was clearing the table and was scraping the dinner 'leftovers' into the trash and it suddenly hit me that there were people all over the world literally Dying for this food.
No good answers though. Yes, people in the US are spoiled. I do not remember who said it, "We will always have the poor." Just seems wrong..........

I worked with people that complained that they could not buy the newest and the best. I have had discussions on this very topic at work. I all cases I have been the minority. I get frustrated when people complain that they are poor according to the lifestyles that they see the rich living while our poor is a lot richer than anyone else's poor. My parents never had more than one tv until all of us children were grown. We had an Atari game center until it broke. My parents never had cable and did not get a dish until they had been out for a while. My greatest concern is why do we Americans have to judge everyone by what we have or do not have. Why do our children need $400 gaming systems in their rooms. Why does most Americans chase after the next IT item? I am tired of our more is better, but not if I have to pay for it. I was reading a newspaper article about a woman struggling with making bills with an $80 dry cleaning monthly cost and over $13,000 in credit card debit along with all of her other bills.

Not all people in America have a high standard of living. However on a relative to other parts of the world generally we have a higher material standard. Do we deserve it? Depends on your point of view. One person above talked about "hard work" . Actually very few in this country know what "hard work" is.There are people all over the world that work very hard and have nothing. America is almost unique. It conquered a new land , rich in resources, plentiful in cheap land and blessed with a Constitution. In having these things we had a tremendous advantage over the people of the depleted continents we arrived from. From our own efforts and hard work? To some extent

I think that "we" are very fortunate to have this kind of living. And YES I think that the majority of the people take for granted what they have. But it's not because they want to, it's because they don't know any better. because if they would live one day in the life of someone that is...for example in...Africa starving to death, and the next day be back to his or her reality I can guarantee that they would never take anything for granted ever again. I've was born in L.A, California, my parents are from Mexico, I haven't gone a day with out anything I have wanted. Why because everything is provided to me. thanks to my parents, but they have always told me to never take anything for granted. There are just little things that we all can do to appreciate what we have. for example THANKING GOD for everything you have. and for blessing you with another day of life, and praying for the people that are less fortunate than you are. also taking conscious in what you consume for example, waisting food...I hate people that serve them self an exaggerated amount of food, and then just throws half of that food away! you know someone in some part of the world would have died to have that amount of food in there stomachs.

I think both. I think americans are spoiled and do take things for granted sometimes...but then again there are americans who go to school and study their butts off for like 20-30 years to get the career that they want and the pay that they want....so they do deserve it because they have worked and sacrificed to get where they want to be. But i agree with you..sometimes Americans do take things for granted. Like food in the frige and a toilet.

No doubt America is becoming an "entitlement" society. Many people now feel they are owed many things wheat her is be the ability to change lanes when ever they want or that there time is more important that anyone else's.
I don't think the US is spoil but I do think many people are unappreciative and don't realize how good life is here.

I dont think were soo much as "spoiled" because people from around the world come to live in the US, thats why were called the "melting pot". But Americans in general like the "high life" because we have to work hard to be able to have nice things and a layed back lifestyle.

Net Creativity.
Nature will decide who deserves what in the end, when she adds up the usefulness we contribute to the universe, and subtracts our consumption of resources. This is the only way that a species is evaluated over the long term. What may be more important is the question, "Will Americans kill each other for their stupid trinkets when the resources start running out, or will they learn to cooperate and limit consumption to prolong their future?"
