I hope not. Joe has been a great manager and if he walks away it should be on his own terms. I don't think George is dumb enough to fire Joe. This is one time where the fans would jump all over George. Basically fans don't much care for George but Joe is a different story. Interesting point: Take a look at Joe's player stats. Why is this guy not in the Hall of Fame as a player?? He will however be elected as a manager for sure. Forget about the Cleveland game. Those things happen from time to time. The fact that the Yankees are only 4 out with the health problems they have is incredible. Once they get healthy they will blow right by Boston.

Given George Steinbrenner, I have to think that Joe Torre will be fired once it is certain that the New York Steinbrenners will not make the playoffs. Torre is a very talented manager, but this collection of talented players and equally talented prima donnas will not hold together. I am reminded of Yogi Berra in 1964, who held the Yankees together mostly through sheer force of will and the fact that his players were also his good friends. But management wanted changes, and Berra lasted through the World Series only because he had gotten the Yankees another pennant - when the Cardinals pulled it out in seven, Berra was gone, just as Casey Stengel was in 1960,

However, Dan Topping, as nasty as he was, was no George Steinbrenner. If Steinbrenner would work on developing talent and paying to keep it instead of buying talent from other teams, the Yankees would be back with a vengeance - and more hated than ever. Right now, however, they are the Steinbrenners, and they are losers. And it's not Joe Torre's fault.

No, Torre will still be the manager at least through the start of next season, I think the person that will ultimately get the big **** stick will be A-Rod, he is having one of his worste years and is not really comfortable in a Yankees uniform, he for whatever reason is going to be traded I believe in a true Block Buster trade invilving Manny Rameriz and some other miner leaguers, etc.
The redsox are fed up with" Manny being Manny " and his " on again, off again " trade demands, He only wants to play in Boston, I could see a trade being done where A-rod moves, Manny moves and the Mets are involved as the third team. this would keep the ties that bind the Sox and Yankees grudge fest @004 firmly intact by allowing the mets to aquire Manny, sending an infielder and a prospect to the sox andor an outfielder and then a-rod ends up in another uniform with a new 10 year deal that will squash his remaining money on his contract making it more equitable and manageable to his new team and stretching the big money down to size. With the yankees and mets paying a huge chunk , maybe half of the remaining amount and the sox paying a year on Manny's contract and then getting the mets to resign manny to a longer deal and squashing his lighter but very costly contract. anyways, a-rod to ? i am not sure, manny to the mets,a-rod to the redsox and moved to another team for ? who knows. Cashman, i feel can't be really assessed because of the money he has had to play with and the players he has been able to get and mostly because george has demanded he do many of the costly trades that cashman has handled even though he did not agree with the Boss, it will most likely wash out where cashman is fired in september and used as the scape goat, i am waiting for the in fighting to start amongst the yankee players, especially when they do the math and realize that detroit and minnesotta will be in and the yankees will probably have to win the east to make the play offs, even so, they have triple players pitching and playin everyday positions poorly, once the fighting goes to the papers in the form of quotes then you will see cashman gone, torre on the wire and players dealt in the off season, and no farm system, there will be a **** load of stud players that will be allstars that went through the yankees hands one way or another only to be given up for veteran players that didn't pan out or help win a world series.

The Yankees General Manager treats the team like a 1995 top of the line Lamborgini. Its fast, and yes expensive, but the yankees are old. They just spend alot of money to replace old parts, but it does fix the whole problem. How many of their starting pictures are under 30? When was the last time someone over 30 lowered their ERA more than a run in successive seasons?
They needed 10 years ago Randy Johnson. Their line up is scary, but thats everyone in the AL. They need to buy promise and have patience...but then again, that isnt the yankees is it.

The Yankees desire to circulate with huge names....i'm my opinion the main important call accessible now's Tony LaRussa. i could desire to be certain Girardi or Mattingly get a shot. this is gotta be somebody Steinbrenner can administration and none of those men look in all threat to positioned up with that. Girardi have been given fired from Florida for status as much as the owner. this is gonna be interesting to demonstrate screen.

No, I think Torre's gonna be around a few more years regardless of whether they win another world series or not. No one wants to fire a guy that had cancer and they shouldn't. If he could beat that, he can make a winning team of the Yanks yet! Good Luck Joe!

Short answer- Yes!

Baseball needs people like Torre in and around this game, will be sad to see him hang up the Pin Stripes. And the Steinbrenner legacy goes on...........
