Dude I am a cop and here is the breakdown. There are 2 types of cops....The ones who are nothing without the cop status for identity and the ones who are rational and make decisions based on intellect. To tell you the truth we are lazy and try to get out of work any way possible. Because....it is like this...in order to look good you gotta make people look bad and I don't buy that one bit , but thats how it works. The bigger picture of protecting and serving is your right to life liberty and pursuit of happiness...that is not reality...it's about money and selling out your friends for praise. Power and control..the real cops who really protect your freewill and happiness usually don't have a badge..they have a beer

There are good cops and average cops, and most cops doing their jobs honestly. It's the ones who are crooked and who abuse people who really screw it up for the folks who simply want to do the job and go home to their families at the end of their tour. Yes, cops do stop people for no reason, they do racially profile innocent people, and arrest the wrong person every once in a while But, those cops eventually lose their jobs, get fired, or kill themselves. I know this because I've seen this first hand. That's a small consolation for their victims, but it's a sad truth. Police are their own worst enemies. Most citizens have absolutely no contact with the police whatsoever, unless, God forbid, their is some sort of tragedy in their lives. If the police show up and do a professional job, well, it's their job to do so. But, if they show up and bungle everything and act like jerks, then they've created an indelible picture in the minds of those they were supposed to serve that most likely will never go away. If an officer is rude to citizen "A" for whatever reason, the next time citizen "A" needs a cop, he or she will be reluctant to ask for help from a cop because every cop will be viewed as rude in their eyes. Being a police officer takes not only the courage to face the bad guys, but to deal with the bad public image given to them by the other "bad guys": the bad cops.

It is hard to classify them in one comment, but from the relationship aspect they can be very cold. They have to be a certain way on the job in order to survive and some have a hard time turning that off when they go home at the end of a day. They can be very aggressive and violent. They need to be able to put themselves in the same shoes as the offenders in order to learn the where, what and when of what goes on. They also need to keep the enemies close for when they need informants. It's a tough job and can alter a perfectly good personality! There are some that go bad though!

Yeah, to serve and to protect. There are good cops and bad cops. The good news is that there are many more good cops then bad ones. It is a career that not many people want. They get to see all of the bad that humanity has to offer. People will cuss at them until the time that they are in trouble, then a cop is their best friend.God Bless the cops and pray for there safety daily

Personally I do not like them, but there are good cops out there that are nice and stick to the rules and regulations. But there are lots that do not and love car chases and have it in their minds that the car they are chasing is out to kill them, not sure how they come up with that thinking-who is chasing who? That is what a cop told me while chatting with him. They can kill people and get away with it by lying about it and other cops watch eachothers backs and lie for them. To me some of them are no better than a person that goes out there and kills people for their own gains. I had a close friend get shot and killed by cops about five years ago, just because he got into a argument with his girlfriend and the cops were chasing him and when they finally done the pit manuver to his truck and blocked him in another cop car came and hit the back of his truck causing it to lurch forwards and they shot him five times and killed him. I have the tape that came from the dash cam of one of the cop cars, I'm not suppose to have it but I have it and checked it out several times and came to the conclusion that the cops messed up. He should not be dead. A judge seen the video and said it was justifeid. BULL ****... The judge and investigative corporation and cops are connected and there is noway of getting a fair decision out of it, in any of the cases. There was NO JUSTICE in this case and it is why I dislike cops. We do have a different sheriff now which is better. The cops have not killed people like they did before. But we are having problems with mentally ill inmates dieing in our local jail lately. No one should be scared or itimidated by any cop. As long as your abiding by the laws and are not brecking the laws they have no bussiness haressing you. If they do, complain to the commissioner of your county or state. Even take it to your govenor if your not getting any satisfaction. No one should have to live in fear. Cops are out there to protect and serve, not to scare anyone...

Would you dare live without them? I used to fear and loath them until I worked in a place where I got to know a few. Guess what? They are just like you and me. They breathe, laugh, get grumpy, play, and act no different than anyone else. They have a job to do and most do it very well. I don't fear them anymore and most of the time I'm glad to see them driving around.

I like cops. They have always been their for me when I needed them. I wouldn't mind if they put a police station outside my door because I don't break the law. Only lawbreakers hate the cops or Policemen as they are correctly called.

There are good ones and bad ones. Police are necessary there are also good and bad people.
Basically cops are the same as society as a whole even though they are held to a higher standard. Don't lump them all into one category.

My grandfather was a policeman in the 20's and 30's. He used to make us stories about his experiences. I loved him very much.
So, each time I see them they remind me of my Abuelo Otilio.
