Depends on the variety, but mostly you tell by size. Pickling cukes are usually small so don't let those get very big. The slicing or salad kind usually around 5 to 6 inches. If you allow them to stay on the vine too long they get very seedy and tough. Good luck.

It depends on the type you planted. You don't necessarily go by the size of the cuke. Some are meant to be small and stubby (the pickling kind), and some are meant to be longer (the slicing into the salad kind).

Don't know what kind of cukes you planted. However, I grow the long english style cukes in my greenhouse. I pick them when they are 10 to 12 inches long, an are firm to the touch ans symetrical alomg their length. Good luck !!!

I find that cukes are best when they are babies!
If you planted "Straight Eights," they should get about 6-8 inches long. (This is the most common kind.)

They are ready anytime you want to pick them. It all depends on what size you want them to be so its really up to you.
