I stepped on a piece of glass at the beach earlier today. It was so sharp, it went right through my tennis shoe & punctured my foot.
The wound bled heavily at first, but by the time I got home & took my shoes & socks off, it was a tiny little dot of a wound with no bleeding. I cleaned it and put a bandaid on.
My friend thinks I should get a tetanus shot. I can't recall the last time I had a booster, but I am terrified if I go in I will have to get the shot where they give you a bunch of shots in your stomach. Do doctor's still do that for tetanus? I'd love it if a medical professional could tell me what to expect...

You are confusing a tetanus shot with a rabies treatment.

A tetanus shot is one shot. It's good for 10 years. Yes, you should have one. The glass might have been clean, but who knows what life forms were in your shoe. It's a puncture wound, be safe, not sorry.

Definitely get a tetanus shot if you have not had a booster in the last 10 years! If you are not certain ...get the shot! Get to an ER. Expect a bee sting in your arm...."mosquito's" don't ever feel like when you get an injection..of course its different for everyone. It's not bad & it will be over before you know it. Have a friend distract you or pinch your other arm...lol you will be yelling at them and the shot will be done!

If you don't remember the last time you had a tetanus booster, your best bet is to get another booster. When something like that happens, they typically like to update if you haven't had one in the last 3-5 years.
No, they do not give you a bunch of shots in the stomach=) It is one shot in the upper arm. It is a little sore for a day or sore, but OTC advil, etc will relieve the pain!

The CDC reccoemds in place of just the tetanus shot that adults and adolscents now get the Pertussis booster shot its called tdap it has the tetanus portion in it as well. It would be a good idea as they are reccomending all adults and adolscents receive the booster and it helps protect everyone as Pertussis is very dangerous and can be deadly to infants

As an ER Nurse I can tell you that YES, you should have a tetanus booster shot every 5 years and NO they don't go into your stomach. One shot into your arm. That's all.

It's not a bunch of shots in the stomach. It's one shot in your arm and that's it. Then u have years of protection. It won't feel any worse than the glass in your foot. The beach is a good place to catch germs, especially in the foot while u are walking or swimming.
Please go get that shot.
