My class did this...and we ended up with a Monarch butterfly!

Get an aquarium. Clean it out well. Place a stick or sticks on the inside of the glass. You need to put various leaves (tree, lettuce, etc.) in the bottom of the aquarium. Also include a very shallow dish of water (to keep things hydrated).

Just keep an eye on things. If the water needs filled, do it. If the caterpillar needs more leaves, add them.

It takes forever, so don't get frustrated. This is just one of the magical wonders that children discover!

Hi, well I wouldn't force it to change into a butterfly so quickly cause then it will have a hard time flying. Since it needs that time of being a caterpillar to strengthen itself and grow into a butterfly flying butterfly. So I would say just let it change by itself.

Depending upon the type, a stick in the glass at an angle might do the trick. Some will not do this in captivity. A few drops of water in the jar to help keep it hydrated will also assist it.
