I'm 8 weeks pregnant and having twice weekly injections for low progesterone (when I was at 5 weeks my progesterone was only 5). The doctor says it's much better and according to an ultrasound last week, the baby's doing very well. I'm too embarassed to ask my strict Catholic doctor if it's safe to have sex with my husband, so I've just been abstaining in order to be on the safe side. My original plan was to wait until after the first trimester, but I really want to know if it's safe to have sex now, or if I could miscarry because of it. Does anyone know the answer?

In a normal healthy pregnancy sex is perfectly safe and actually beneficial.

You're a risky pregnancy though. You need to ask your doctor.

Get over it. You had sex to make this baby, thats obvious to your doctor. This is one of the most commonly asked questions in a ob's office.

Any modesty you had will fly out the window in a few months anyway, so just get over it.

Regardless of his religion (and I say this as a Catholic), your doctor will answer any question you have. He's spent his life dealing with women's health so nothing you'll ask him will embarass him. It's an honest question and he's the best person to answer it.

For what it's worth, Catholicism feels that all sex between a husband and wife is a good thing as long as there is no attempt to circumvent pregnancy. Since you're already pregnant, that's not an issue. The document Humanae Vitae (issued ca. 1968 by Pope Paul VI and the definitive document on sex and birth control in the Catholic Church) is clear that there are dual purposes for intercourse: procreation and the unitive action of bringing husband and wife closer together.

I hope you can feel comfortable discussing any question with your doctor. I promise you that he can be trusted and that any question you ask will be taken seriously and given a solid medical answer.

i would think it would be okay as long as the sex is not rough and by rough you can get the idea if its slow and gentle it should be fine the baby is up there a bit and your body does a great job protecting itself and anything in it just ask your doctor and dont be ashamed your already pregnant and are starting a family he is no one to judge you hes supposed to be there to help you if you dont want to ask him ask another doctor they will tell you the truth and not say something just cause there strict lol good luck and i hope everything works out for you.

I had low prog. and was considered a threatened miscarriage. I was not allowed to have intercourse until 16 weeks when I went off the progesterone.

Call and ask the nurse if you are concerned. Find a doctor you are comfortable talking to. I wouldn't make too much out of it, I am sure he has heard EVERYTHING.
