Every time I hear (usually, white) people describe a person on tv (usually dating shows like Next or Date my Mom), they say "he/she has blonde hair and blue eyes" and nothing else. The person could be as ugly as sin, but because of their eye and hair coloring, it's okay. WTF?

Note, I'm not giving my personal opinion or saying one specific racial group does this...I just mean people in general.
I am NOT saying all people with blonde hair and blue eyes are ugly (and for those of you who said most people w/ blonde hair and blue eyes are attractive--stop lying to yourselves).
I just want to know why some people feel saying "blonde hair and blue eyes" is giving a good description of an attractive person.

Don't think too much of it. I don't!
I think you could describe half of Hollywood as "Blonde hair, blue eyes"

I know Blonde/Blue types that look like they've been beat with the ugly stick - twice! But it's usually assumed that people on those types of shows are somewhat attractive, or else they wouldn't be on the show. They screen! Anyways - usually if somebody is talking about somebody from one of those shows - and they're blonde/blue - they probably are attractive to a certain degree. If they were black/brown - you could probably safely assume they are attractive also.

The very fact that you raise this question implies that you're fighting with the contention that light skinned, blond people are more attractive. As some have responded above, this is learned thinking, or acquired behaviour.
Yet if you take some time to look and consider, you will find many light-skinned or blond people who seem to prefer "the opposite." You'll see white girls with black guys, white men who seek Asian women, and so forth. There is no simple formula for this, and economic factors, customs, and cultural norms shape what happens.
You mention tv. Well, in America, as well as other places where Anglo-Saxon, German, Dutch-Afrikaans have controlled the media, the prejudices and biases of those who finance and manage these media have delivered us products which re-inforce these cultural preferences. Hence we have Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Courtney Love, Darryl Hannah, and many more stars of the film, theatre, and music worlds who serve the unstated purpose to teach us that this is what men want. Strangely enough I recall less male stars of blond and blue eyed look, but I know they're there, some one else can post on this. Even then, you see the hypocrisy of the male dominated institutions, from Hollywood all the way to the Nazi hierarchy, where men with black hair and less than Aryan ancestry still hold up this myth that the Lighter and Bluer, the Better and Truer.
So wake up, sister; look outside that narrow perspective, and shake off thos lies you and we have been fed. Remember, "Mind over matter, spirit over mind." and "Knowledge is power!" "Free your mind, and the rest will follow!"

Obviously, someone values those traits above others if he thinks that "blond and blue-eyed" is enough of a description to convey that the person he is describing is beautiful. So what? Everyone values some physical traits over others. I do think that blond hair and blue eyes are distinctive traits that might stand out, perhaps making other unattractive features that the person has less noticeable. Why is it a concern of yours if some people are more attracted to blond, blue-eyed people? I don't especially care for those traits myself, but it doesn't bother me if other people do. You sound jealous and, yes, racist. Does "black is beautiful" have to mean that white is ugly? Can't different people have their own preferences without you taking it as a personal slight? I've heard comments about Asian, Latino, or black women being beautiful, and I'm not offended by it. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I have red hair and brown eyes, and if there's any group that's not represented in media images of beauty, it's natural redheads. Everyone thinks it's OK to insult us and say that pale skin and red hair are ugly. So what are you complaining about? I see a lot more black women on MTV than redheads, but I realize that we are a very small constituency, and the majority usually rules. I could just as well ask why people automatically assume that darker skin is a marker of beauty, and pale skin is considered unattractive.

hajgora7: Marlene Dietrich and Courtney Love??!! Courtney Love as a model of beauty?!?

Those of you who are bringing Hitler and Arianism into it are basically saying that it's not OK for someone to think that blond hair and blue eyes are beautiful. So...you're the racists.

I agree with Barbie, marketing, and the post-barbie pop stars that assimilate her or have come into existence because they already naturally have the blonde/blue look the masses seemingly have favoritism toward.

If this theory is true it proves people are mindless following drones. I've always felt great disdain for girls who dye their hair blonde to try to fit into this supposed quality, as well as for all kinds of fakery or poseurism.

I've always tended to be more attracted to darker haired/eyed girls.

By the way, when did Barbie come out?

Also, could the favoring of blonde/blue possibly be rooted in Hitler? I honestly am not educated on the matter, so I am unsure if it could have influenced the English-speaking world, especially back then.

Ok fortunatly I don't think it makes you automatically attractive but in defense of my self being blond haired and blue eyed I could call that being racist against white people. It is only an opinion that every race has about itself. In some countries fat woman are considered very attractive, in other countries other distinctive features make a person thought of as attractive. It 's kinda like saying that you want a man who is tall with broad shoulders. That guy could be uuugllly but the first thought is that he is desirable because of those features. It's mainly a stereotype I think

I don't think blonde hair/ blue eyes is always attractive. Sometimes, but not always. I prefer intelligent, red haired, green eyed women.

That's a good Q.

You know I've read some research about acculturating to America, some immigrants dye their hair blonde-ish to acheive that "western" look.

Not all white people like girl/boys like that. Jesse McCartney likes dark haired girls with exotic looks. Not all blonde's with blue eyes are pretty. Some have big noses.
