All the melanin has usually developed by 9 monthes. The more melanin, the darker the eyes will be. If baby's eyes are blue or steel grey at birth it means there's virtually no melanin in her eyes. Varying amounts produce hazel eye colors.

It varies from baby to baby. Most will have their final eye color by 6 months old, and almost all by a year. But there are exceptions. And eye color can change between related colors (different shades of blue and gray, for instance) even in young adulthood.

Many Caucasian babies are born with blue eyes, though their eyes will darken, or change color. Most infants' eye color will set within a couple of days to a couple of weeks, though some people's will continue to change for a number of years.

I think usually by 9 months their eye color is permanant. My girls have blue eyes so I'm not sure...They never lost the color they were born with.

I have wanted to know the answer to this question for quite some time. My baby is 11 mo. and her eyes are still as blue as the day she was born. So, I would say 1 year??? Ask your pediatrician...that's what I plan to do!

Eye color, according to my opthamologist colleagues, has usually stabilized by around 6 months of age. However, there may continue to be subtle changes in shade up until adulthood.
