Many people will argue this (you know with religious beliefs and all)---but that is how I've felt for several years. To me, it's just irresponsible to the earth to have more than 2 or 3 kids. We're already over-populated (our birth rates are going up faster than our death rates), don't have enough resources (we're using things before they can be replenished), and we're killing our planet. I hope that doesn't sound too 'hippish', it's just something that's been on my mind for awhile too. I don't know the solution (definitely NOT forced sterilization or Govt. regulation. But I think individuals have to start getting smart and taking responsiblity).

Simple math skills are not the issue here. In fact your "question" raises two issues. The first question relates to environmental resources and personal responsibilities. And, the second is about reproductive rights and responsibilities.
First I question your statistics about our limited resources. Even the best experts disagree about how much of any resource we have and how long it will be before we run out if it (if we will ever run out of it). While we should allways seek to be as clean as we can in regard to the environment, I don't think we'll be living on an empty planet anytime soon.
Secondly, the idea all people should have some two-child limit is pointless and likely to fall on deaf ears the world over. In China they limited couples to one child, and that meant that girls babies were aborted and killed and horrific levels. Now china has too many men and too few women. In some places around the world having more children means that important work like growing food and raising livestock will get done and the family (at that larger size) will survive more easily.
In some places the population is so unbalanced (due to war or illness) that there are more old people than young. These countries need to have their couples raise more than two children each in order to preserve their societies.
One world-wide population control policy would likely cause more problems that it solves.

Many countries are actually experiencing a low birth rate. The people whose religion are against birth control have a real problem. Usually these people are poor and cannot take care of their children properly. Some churches want people to have very large families so there will be more people to support the church. It's too bad they think only of the income for the church and not what some children have to suffer because parents cannot properly care for so many. Hopefully people will realize what is happening and solve the problem themselves.

Normal people don't think about oil, the sea and land when we decide to have children. See, we have the right to have as many children as we want, providing we can take care of them. My husband and I support our kids without asking anyone for anything. I don't feel one bit guilty or selfish for bringing more then two children into this world. People like you have too much time on your hands to sit around and think about stuff like that.
And maybe your parent's should have thought that way before they conceived you.
I'm off to take care of those little people you think shouldn't be here, and I'll enjoy every minute of it, just as I do everyday.

We were told that stuff 40 years ago, and many people bought into it. The women had careers instead of kids. We did our bit to keep the population down and not over populate the country. Now we are told that there are not enough young people to keep the country alive and that immigration has to be drastically increased. Do not listen to the master planners, they are idiots, have as many children as you want, because the only thing the people who want to tell you what to do do is get it wrong

We are not running out of room yet, we are just not managing our natural resources effectively enough to provide for everyone while minimising the impact we have on the environment.

Instead of telling people to have less kids (and compared to 25 years ago, families are consisting of less kids), might I suggest addressing the issues of poverty, starvation, ecology, and responsibility for the earth's resources.

the western civilized world is shrinking. we each need to make one baby to replace ourselves and perhaps a few of us have to make more to replace the ones that are not being replaced by the people who choose to not have kids.
there are plenty of resources, just not enough educated people in power who care to manage them.
the problem is governments, not the earths resources.
