Well, Christmas is Christmas no matter what year. I was born in the 40's and the decorations were not as elaborate as today. Popcorn strings for garland, and oh yes, those bubbly lights and of course the colored balls on the tree. There were no artificial, so get a real tree.
The foods were probably no different either. Coke was the drink that everyone liked.
Thats a hard one sweetie. Maybe if you have everyone dress in that era that will help.

1) The tree must be real. Lights -- Large bulbs, not the little dinky ones. Nothing fancy.
2) Food -- traditional, nothing from a microwave.
3) Decorations -- A nativity scene ( Pre PC days ) Paper snowflakes, Glass & wood tree ornaments
4) Carols -- Any one of the classics will be just fine.
5) Drinks -- Egg nog is always a hit
For a visual tip watch the classic movie " It's A Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart & Donna Reed
Hope this helps you out

Get your grandmother to tell you about her first married Christmas. She can help a lot with the traditions, and you shouldn't get busted.
The library is where I would start looking for the recipes and decorative ideas. The should have lots of books on etiquette from that time (hostessing tips that are period correct) and magazines with all the late latest trends. Have fun.

Decorations: 3rd Reich Flags, Fritz Helmets, Posters of Hitler and the Waffen SS.
Also, you can park a Patzer Tiger in the garden.

Find dvd's of shows that may have been on tv at that time, play them, if they had a tv in 48. Dress yourself in period clothes.
Try to find vintage newspapers on ebay and lay them in the house to read.

Find someone with an old car from that era and invite them. Park it on your lawn.
