Have you tried Juilliard?? Juilliard is probably one of the best (if not the best) school for music, drama, and dance in the United States and it is located in NY city.

do a google search for
music degree programs+NY

Obviously, Julliard is a top school, but it may not be the best fit for you. Be aware that most music schools require an audition for placement, or maybe even acceptance. If you haven't had any training at all yet, this doesn't always mean you can't get in, it just may mean that you'll have to take catch up classes that don't count towards your degree program.

If there is any possible way to start private piano lessons, do it asap. If you have another talents as well, like singing, also look into lessons for that. If you can't afford lessons, look into community programs that may offer them at a reduced rate or sliding scale. If that's not possible, buy a used book on music theory and try to learn some of it on your own. Anything you can possibly do to get yourself further along will help.

Once you find some schools you are interested in, don't be afraid to contact the advisors in the music department to find out what they are looking for and ask them for help in figuring out what you should do to get it. It's their job and they can help you the most in your area.
