Subconsciously, we know that each time a remote button is pushed, the battery's life is shortened. But since the darn remote seems to work every time, we may think that the button is not making full contact with whatever it is under it so we compensate by a harder push. Also, by pushing it a little harder and longer, maybe, just maybe we can coax a little more juice out of them to send the signal out this time, and hopefully, one or possibly more times after that. I think this has to do with 'getting your money's worth'.

The same reason why we shake a soda can even when it's empty=) Answer: Plain hope that there's a drop of soda left.
It's the same with your question, we keep pressing the buttons for the hope that maybe it's not the battery but the remote instead!
Either that or you're just too lazy to replace new batteries, lol.

Because we're stupid.

It's just like ice cream throat. You know when you're eating ice cream, and the back of your throat gets too cold and it hurts? So you stop eating ice cream for a second so the pain goes away, and then what do you do?

Eat more ice cream!

We are ******* stupid.
