Close but Wilt Chamberlain. Chamberlain was a bit quicker and could score...Russell couldn't score even though his defense is better.

Chamberlain would win 11 to 3. Russel might have gotten some shots off of Wilt, but Wilt is still Stiltin' and he will b in that tight post-up and dunk over Billy.

Chamberlain will win. Why? It's this simple. Russ was the consummate team player (probably the best team player of all time) but Wilt was the better one-on-one player. He had a lot more offensive moves in his arsenal than Russell. And while Russell was a defensive genius, Wilt would simply overpower him down low.

This is a "no-brainer" -- Which one is still alive? The dead man can't win the game anymore.

If WIlt Chamnerlain were still alive he would be just weeks from turning 70 years of age. Bill Russell is already past 70. In their day, this would have been a match. But as it is perhaps this question can be decided by looking at their NBA records. - I think Wilt Chamberlain would have the slight edge over Bill Russell, in a one on one -- but team against team -- that's anybody's guess..

Hard to say. Both had the same physique, until Chamberlain's knees went bad, and he built up his upper body to compensate. Both were tough defensively and offensively, although Russell's roles on the Celtic's, with all their scorers, were primarily that of rebounder and shot blocker. He could certainly score at will, as could Chamberlain. Personally, having watched most of their battles when I was growing up, I'd say it would probably be a draw. Another way to say it would be "on any given day either could smoke the other (since its make it take it)".

Chamberlain. He always out performed Russel in their meetings. They're both Gods in the NBA.
