Get a nice manicure. You won't want to ruin it. You can also buy stuff that tastes really awful to put on your nails.

It's OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) the obsession is the biting the compulsion is the act of doing so. The key to redirect the obsession. Whenever you feel the need to bite your nails do something else. However it has been 15yrs. regardless it's a learned behavior and can be unlearned. I think it's going to take a little more then redirection. Have you talked to your doctor about the possibility of OCD? Good luck. It could also be a nervous reaction to situations that you find unnerving. What situations are neveing to you? Do you find yourself biting your nails more during certain situations? Talk to you doctor about this it could actually be more to it then meets the eye.

Try the "Stop-It" theory...I actually used this on this exact problem a few years ago. I just literally verbally told myself to "stop it" when I caught myself biting my nails and eventually i stopped. also get some nail strengthening polish, cause ur nails will be weak at the tips. and somethin that u dont like like vinegar or lemon juice or something on ur fingers helps.

Get some thick acrylic tips. That is what I did, and I stopped bitting my nails. As a matter of fact I kept my tips and have had then for darn near 10 years. Haven't bit my nails since then.

you can think about all those germs you are eating..if you handle money you come in contact with feces...i'm serious i saw a show on tv about germs..even ecoli..sp..a guy i know bit his nails and quit at 62 !! when he found out about germs..you could also look in the mirror while you do it and see what other people see..i won't date a guy if he bites his nails...and when it comes to a psychological reason..it can be a sign of anger..good luck! p.s. and i never use pay phones ! won't touch them!

Wal-Mart carries a nailpolish called "stop that bite". It tastes terrible! I have been a chronic nailbiter for 20+ years and it's helping me. I actually have whites on the ends that I can file!

Try to put your mind on something else. Kind of a distraction you might say.
