I am turning 61 how soon before my 62nd birthday should I file to receive payments as soon as posible? Does payments start in the mounth of your birth or there after?

I am not sure exactly when the payments would start. I am sure the social security website for the federal govt woudl give the information. However you are not eligible for full benefit payments until you reach age 65 even though legally you can retire with partial social security at age 57.5.

You call your local office and explain what your doing and they will either send you the forms or make an appointment.
