Sometimes when couples are dating they feel they have to explore their feelings about the person they are dating.
That is what dating is all about. Trying to find out how you feel about a person. This is why dating should be used to explore interest that a couple share. So many times I have seen couples date and try to be what they think their partner wants them to be. Then after they get married they find themselves trying to be what they had been portraying to be and trying to be themselves at the same time.
Now for your ex-boyfriend it sounds as if he has decided it time to explore his feelings for you and maybe others. If this is the case maybe it is time for you to do the same thing. But be careful because you sound as if you may be wearing your heart on your sleeve and are venerable

I would take the time apart because in this time you will find out if you are really in love with him and is he really in love with you. but talk to him about seeing other people and is this why he wants to have some time alone.

Let him have all the time he wants alone......evidently he has seen someone else that is appealing to him...do not let him go to the other person and then think he is coming back to you....let him go ...he is not worth the trouble...

Give him the time, more time then he things he needs. Give yourself time. It's very likely that he wants to be with other people. Sorry.

Let him have it. Later on when you ready to settle down with him or someone else your not the one required to love....
You required to respect but that does not mean you don't love.
