Sad stories on the news like: war, fires, crimes, deaths... often times these sad stories bring tears to my eyes and lumps in my throat. Does this sometimes happen to you? When this happens I pray and I count my blessings.

Doesn't make me cry much, though it upsets me that we are in strange, but bad times. I wonder what all of our ancestors would think about the world today? I can't say that I don't watch the news because it only reports on bad stuff, but in a way, it teaches me how to be more cautious of my surroundings. I mostly cry about bad things that happen to poor defenseless children.

Nope. War and crime are not sad stories. But the atrocities caused by evil dictators like Kim Jung Il (N. Korea), and Saddam were sad, because their evil is done in the shadows, hidden from most public view. Estimates are as high as 30 million N. Koreans have been murdered and starved to death under Kim Jung's regime, but you'll never hear about it in the news. The ethnic cleansing happening to black Africans in the Darfur region rarely gets reported either, probably only because lack of American involvement.

Nah, the news doesn't make me sad. Its what the news fails to reports thats really sad.

Yeah it happens to me, but I try to conrtoll it. I get tears from good news too. There was a time not too long ago when someone from my community was kidnapped for money and I surely thought he was dead because there was no response from the kidnappers. I cried tears of joy when the police found him. I also cried when I found out a missing lady was found after many years which everyone thought was killed by the pig farmer like all the other girls. I easily get touched.

the news is more graphic and I am finding along with myself that I am becoming immune to death and crimes. Its terrible, I really hate hearing about child abuse or murder. That why most of the time i refuse to read the paper or watch the news.

nope I dont get sad, I mean I hate that its happening but not sad because I know our deliverance is getting near. The horrible news is part of the signs of the last days and then the end will come.
So, chin up and be strong and keep your faith in the assured expectation of things that will come! Thats really in the bible..so you can believe it hun.

I never watch the late news because it depresses me and then I don't sleep very well. I never watch on the weekends because again it depresses me. There's just too much bad stuff happening 24/7.

That's a good way to get over the sadness. Sometimes, all we can do is pray.

Yes, I turn it off most of the time, especially when children and animals are concerned. They are so innocent. My husband thinks it is unhealthy for me to avoid it, but I would rather avoid the sadness than sit and listen to it.

News is done for profit, not social service. People seem to like to eat up fear, and horrible stories are what sells advertising space.

Why do you think depression is running so rampant?

I agree. The news seems to report only the bad and not the good, I'm guessing that is what keeps them on the air (unfortunately).
