It's not scary in the gory sense, it just builds a lot of tension. I refuse to spoil it for you because it is a classic and you need to watch it! You're missing out on such memorable lines as "your mother sucks cocks in hell".

The book is so much better than the Movie, but I think miss_mina was right you are missing great lines...and scenes like when she masturbates with crucifix, or the awesome parts where she pukes the green pea soup like substance all over the priest. When she is floating over the bed and she starts moving her body up and down on the bed screaming, her head spins around and she has all of these different voices of souls she uses to scare the $hit out of everyone...so go get the book and just don't think of her face...

Look. To make it short, watch the Director's cut. Remove the scene where she's crawling down the stairs and there you go. It might screw up your brains, but we all need a good scare once in a while, especially from something that can happen in real life. Keeps us on our toes, so to speak. You might even enjoy it. It has a positive ending in that the demon is defeated. So there.

I'm with Miss Nina. Watch the movie. It's more of a psychological thriller than a horror movie. I saw the movie in '73 and it scared the bejusus out of me. Still does. But not becuse of gore.

seen it many times. It is based (loosely) on an actual exorcism performed in St. Louis. Sounds as if you WANT to like scary movies. This movie is SCARY so if you are prone to nightmares etc... steer clear.... If you do decide to watch it, do so with a friend (if you are both at least 18) who is NOT afraid and it MAY help you through it... NO GUARANTEES.... Good luck
