Yes, it does. Many places now don't even ask for ID to verify if it is you, or see if the card is even signed. Some places even have the credit card machine where the costumer inserts the card and signs on it... the card never has to be shown... so even if you put in the back "check for ID" it doesn't matter. Especially online.. anyone can use a credit card without having to proof if it is theirs or not...
... the sad thing is, that even if you get that protection plan that you have to pay for, it might not even work... and agencies, only really look at activities on your card if you have recently, or in the past been a victim of ID theft. And even then, it still happens. It's sad really. (It's happen to someone that I personally know a number of times)...

I agree, all the person who steals it has to do is scan it through before the person who it belongs through ever knows!!

yes, that swipe and go stuff is really unsettling to me...I don't sign my cards anymore, I just put C ID that way they have to check my id.

Yes. That's why I write on the front "ask for identification".
